In the Northwestern part of the Florida Panhandle lies Holmes County, founded in 1848. Many people or things lay claim to being the inspiration for the Holmes county’s namesake. Holmes County is the fifth smallest county in Florida.

Meet The Editor
Carol Kent Wyatt reprised her role as Editor of the Washington County News in 2021, a position she previously held from 2014 to 2018 before serving three years as Public Information Officer for the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office. Carol began her journalism career as an intern at the Washington County News when she was a junior at Chipley High School. She later served as Associate Editor of The News Courier and then Editor and General Manager of The Alma Times, both in Alma, Georgia, before returning to her hometown of Chipley in 2004.
